What does 6500K light mean?
Kelvin is the color temperature unit, or, to put it another way, a color temperature must be measured in Kelvin (K). Furthermore, the color temperature of a bulb or lamp refers to how the light emitted by it appears to the naked eye of a human body.
A Kelvin is defined in the same way that a Celsius or a Fahrenheit is, with the key difference being that, on a thermodynamic scale, a Celsius is – 273.15 degrees and a Fahrenheit is – 459.67 degrees, both at absolute zero, whereas a Kelvin is 0 Kelvin at absolute zero.
The higher the Kelvin value, the higher the color temperature and thus the number of colors visible to the human eye.
It is important to note that the majority of halogen or incandescent bulbs on the market have a Kelvin temperature range of 2700-3000K. Metal-halide lamps, fluorescent, and LED bulbs, on the other hand, have a color temperature range of 2700-6500K. Also, a Kelvin is used subjectively – candle light at 1800K is a warm yellow color, whereas a bulb with a color temperature of 2700K is a warm white. A portrait photography studio’s color temperature would be 3200K, reflecting color as neutral white.
As the color temperature decreases from 2700K to 3000K, the light becomes less yellow and more white. A color temperature of 5000K or higher indicates a bluish-white color, whereas a color temperature of 6000K-7000K indicates daylight, though daylight bulbs may vary slightly. For example, color temperatures ranging from 4000K to 6500K would indicate midday sunlight.
